Feed-in Tariffs
The UK Feed-in Tariff Scheme (FiT), which went live on 1st April 2010, is a new environmental programme introduced by the UK Government to promote widespread uptake of a range of small scale renewable electricity generation technologies.
This scheme is highly lucrative for those selling or owning suitable renewable generation plant. The FiT scheme is set up with size bands for the developments, this gives higher returns for the smaller projects, which reduce with the larger projects, see table 1 below for the tariffs for Wind projects. Note that the tariff is for all units generated, all units of electricity that are sold to the grid also earns between 3.1p–5p on top of the tariff.
